Diabetes drugs Byetta, Januvia linked to cancer risk

A new study has found that diabetes patients taking the drugs Januvia or Byetta may be three times more likely to develop pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer. Researchers also discovered a possible increased risk of thyroid cancer among Byetta users.

DePuy took three years to recall hip replacements, expert testifies

An orthopedic expert testified that it took DePuy three years to recall their failing ASR hip replacements in Australia. Evidence of the high failure rate emerged in 2006, but the first implants weren’t withdrawn until December 2009. Plaintiffs on DePuy lawsuits against the orthopedics manufacturer allege that the company allowed the products to remain on the market despite significant evidence indicating the devices were harmful.

FDA warnings links Depakote to birth defects risk

The Food and Drug Administration has warned that women who use the migraine and seizure drug Depakote while pregnant are more likely to give birth to a child with birth defects. According to data studied by the FDA the increased Depakote birth defects risk was even greater among women who used the drug during the first trimester of pregnancy.
