Abbott cholesterol drug subject of false-marketing suit

A former Abbott Laboratories saleswoman has filed a federal lawsuit against the company, accusing it of illegally promoting its cholesterol drug TriCor for uses not approved by regulators, including the prevention of cardiac health risks in patients with diabetes. The lawsuit comes on the heels of an agreement Abbott reached in May to pay $1.6 billion to settle federal and state claims that it illegally marketed the anti-seizure medication Depakote for off-label uses.
