Study Reveals Transvaginal Mesh Has No Benefit Over Traditional Treatment for POP

A recent study conducted by Dr. Robert E. Gutman and a team of researchers from Georgetown University has revealed no variation in cure rates with or without the use of transvaginal mesh for treatment in repairing vaginal prolapse. The study appears in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the September 6th online edition.

More than 300 GranuFlo lawsuits have been filed against the manufacturer, and more are expected. Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) is facing lawsuits which allege that the dialysis concentrates GranuFlo and NaturaLyte caused significant injuries to patients receiving hemodialysis treatments.

Bayer acquires another device with history of serious side effects

Bayer Pharmaceuticals, manufacturer of the controversial Mirena intrauterine device (IUD), has acquired another device with a history of serious complications. The Essure system is a contraceptive device featuring two coils inserted into the fallopian tubes, which eventually causes the body to develop enough scar tissue to prevent pregnancy.

Woman 24 hours away from heart attack or stroke due to Yaz

A 25-year old woman was told by her doctors that she was 24 to 48 hours away from suffering a major heart attack or stroke due to blood clots formed by her birth control pills. Amanda Saul had been taking Yaz for two years when her doctors told her she had a blood clot close to her heart and one in her lung.

Investigation makes available complete list of Mirena IUD complaints

A freedom of information act request has made available more than 59,000 Mirena IUD complaints filed to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Mirena IUD side effects have been a key issue for patients who allege that the intrauterine birth control device is causing severe complications.

SSRIs increase risk of bleeding after stroke

A new study from Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark has found that antidepressant drugs such as Zoloft and other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) increase the risk of bleeding in patients who have had a stroke. Researchers said the increased bleeding risk could be a factor in the increased number of deaths among ischemic stroke patients using Zoloft.
