Merck issues voluntary recall of cholesterol drug Liptruzet

Merck said it is recalling its combination cholesterol drug Liptruzet, which was introduced in May, because of packaging defects that could reduce effectiveness. In a statement on its website, Whitehouse Station-based Merck said the recall will clear out the entire stock of Liptruzet, which includes all four dose strengths and every batch it has distributed.

U.S. warns Bristol Myers over Puerto Rico plant

U.S. health regulators have warned Bristol Myers Squibb Co (BMY.N) over repeated manufacturing violations at its facility in Puerto Rico and said future drug approvals could be at risk, according to a letter released on Tuesday. The problems, which include failures to take steps to prevent contamination or investigate subpar drug batches, show inherent weakness with the company’s quality controls, the Food and Drug Administration said in a letter to Bristol Chairman and Chief Executive Jim Cornelius.

Barr Laboratories, Inc. issues a voluntary nationwide recall of Dextroamphetamine/Amphetamine 20mg Tablets

Barr Laboratories Inc. is recalling 100-count bottles of 20-milligram tablets of dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate and amphetamine sulfate. The tablets are recalled because they could be larger than indicated, leading to super-potent doses. This could result in adverse cardiovascular, neurological, psychiatric and gastrointestinal reactions. The recalled tablets were distributed between June 11 and June 16.

KV Pharmaceutical to recall most products

Shares of KV Pharmaceutical plummeted to an all-time low Monday morning after the company said it would recall most of its products and halted its manufacturing and shipping operations. The announcement followed two product recalls in November and December linked to oversize tablets, including painkillers and attention-deficit disorder drugs, which could deliver dangerously large doses.

KV suspends tablet shipments, recalls painkiller

Beset by manufacturing problems and management controversy, KV Pharmaceutical Co. on Tuesday suspended shipment of the tablet form of its drugs. It also recalled a shipment of its painkiller hydromorphone because of a report of an oversized pill. It’s the fourth such drug recall in recent months.
