Janssen Pharmaceuticals to pay Montana $5.9 M in Risperdal lawsuit settlement

Janssen Pharmaceuticals has agreed to pay the state of Montana $5.9 million in a Risperdal settlement. The state’s attorney general Tim Fox brought the Risperdal lawsuits against the Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, alleging that the company promoted the antipsychotic medication for unapproved and off-label uses. The funds will be divided among hospitals, courts and Risperdal awareness groups.

J&J Said to Pay $2.2 Billion to End Risperdal Sales Probe

Johnson & Johnson has agreed to pay as much as $2.2 billion to settle U.S. probes of the marketing of its Risperdal antipsychotic drug and other medications, two people familiar with the negotiations said. The settlement, which might be announced this week, will include a misdemeanor plea and criminal penalty of as much as $600 million. The accord also would resolve civil claims that J&J paid kickbacks to Omnicare Inc., a company that dispenses drugs at nursing homes, the people said.

Johnson & Johnson ordered to pay $1.1 billion penalty in Arkansas Risperdal case

Johnson & Johnson was ordered to pay $1.1 billion by a state judge after an Arkansas jury found the company’s officials misled doctors and patients about the risks of the antipsychotic drug Risperdal. Along with contending that J&J and Janssen defrauded the Medicaid program by failing to properly outline the antipsychotic medicine’s risks, Arkansas officials alleged J&J officials deceptively marketed the drug as safer and better than competing medicines.

J&J Said to Face Demand to Lift Risperdal Settlement Offer by $800 Million

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) faces a U.S. government demand to raise its offer by $800 million from an initial proposal to settle a federal civil investigation into marketing of the antipsychotic Risperdal, according to three people familiar with the matter. The Justice Department is demanding that J&J pay about $1.8 billion to resolve the civil claims by the U.S. and some states, the people said. The U.S. government has been investigating Risperdal sales practices since 2004, including allegations the company marketed the drug for unapproved uses.

J&J Should Pay Texas $579 Million for Risperdal, Jury Told

Johnson & Johnson should reimburse at least $579 million to the Texas Medicaid system for fraudulently promoting its antipsychotic drug Risperdal for uses not approved by U.S. regulators, a state lawyer told jurors. J&J, the world’s largest health care products company, is defending a lawsuit by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott that claims the company and its Janssen unit overhyped and overcharged the state for the drug after its approval in 1993.
