Woman 24 hours away from heart attack or stroke due to Yaz

A 25-year old woman was told by her doctors that she was 24 to 48 hours away from suffering a major heart attack or stroke due to blood clots formed by her birth control pills. Amanda Saul had been taking Yaz for two years when her doctors told her she had a blood clot close to her heart and one in her lung.

Bayer settles gallbladder claims linked to Yaz and Yasmin

Bayer Pharmaceuticals has agreed to settle Yasmin and Yaz lawsuits alleging that the birth control pills caused gallbladder problems. The drug manufacturer will pay up to $24 million to patients who contracted gallbladder disease.

Health Canada reviews more birth control pills linked to blood clots

Health Canada is reviewing the connection between a birth control drug and blood clots after France banned it for causing the deaths of 4 women. The drug, Diane-35, is used to treat acne and is prescribed as an oral contraceptive, but may be responsible for deadly blood clots.

French watchdog calls for doctors to curb birth control use

The National Drugs Safety Agency (ANSM) in France is urging doctors to curb prescriptions for current-generation birth control pills such as Yaz and Yasmin. The agency argues that doctors over-prescribe the birth control pills, which could cause severe blood clots.
