A 43-year old Chicago woman was awarded $14 million by a jury in her Yasmin lawsuit. Mariola Zapalski developed blood clots and suffered a stroke at the age of 37, only two weeks after she was prescribed the birth control pill Yasmin for irregular bleeding.

The National Drugs Safety Agency (ANSM) in France is urging doctors to curb prescriptions for current-generation birth control pills such as Yaz and Yasmin. The agency argues that doctors over-prescribe the birth control pills, which could cause severe blood clots.

A former winner of the Miss America pageant is speaking out against birth control pills that could increase the risk of blood clots. Jackie Mayer, who was named Miss America in 1963, suffered a near-fatal stroke in 1970 after taking birth control pills for a little more than a month.

Yaz and Yasmin settlements total surpasses $140 million

Drug manufacturer Bayer AG announced in a stockholder’s newsletter that it has paid $142 million to settle Yaz and Yasmin lawsuits filed against the company. The German company settled over 500 lawsuits alleging that the two birth control pills caused severe injuries to patients, including blood clots and pulmonary embolism.

Bayer to pay $110 million in Yasmin and Yaz lawsuit settlements

The manufacturer of Yaz and Yasmin will pay more than $110 million to settle nearly 500 lawsuits alleging that Yasmin caused blood clots in patients who used the drug. Bayer Pharmaceuticals is facing more than 11,000 Yasmin and Yaz lawsuits, according to a recent filing by the company.

Bayer has paid $142 million to settle Yaz and Yasmin lawsuits

The manufacturer of the birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin announced last week that it has paid $142 million to settle lawsuits alleging that the two drugs caused blood clots and other serious injuries. Bayer Pharmaceuticals said in a report that it is settling Yasmin and Yaz lawsuits involving venous clot injuries, including pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, heart attack, stroke and other conditions caused by blood clots.
